2003 Cortina,Italy/ St_Anton, Austria

The second round at Cortina was very different from the first time 3 years prior.  First, the snow was sparse but the skiing was still great.  We had a great tour coordinator (Andrew) this time and we were able to go to great places within Cortina and around the local ski areas as well.  The Clipper Bar was our meeting base as the Mexicalli Bar was gone and the town appeared more reserved post 9/11.  The locals did proceed to embrace us and Mohitos' and wine ultimately ended us upside down.  The next day's outing started with confusion due to our curtains down and the lack of sunlight.  We made it to the slopes by noon! BC forgot his pole in the lift and to add insult,  I proceeded to go down the hill toward Cristallo and fell and ended with a bruise the size of asstralia.  I learned many lessons that day, rental skis should be speed tested and parabolics are tough for us old school long board 2 plankers.  I got away from my Monoski due to the problems I encountered with my knees due to the prior years overindulgence on the ski slopes.  Too much of a good thing hurt my knees.

We did enjoy John's (ski tuner) company at the base of Cristallo as he became a grandfather this week and drove us to town on the way to see his daughter.  The BAR\Restaurant at the Bottom of Cristallo was a great place to hang once again.

We did the Sella Ronda, Cinco Torre, Val di Fassa which was great with a guide.  We were not able to ski from the base of Cristallo to town this time...

We stayed at the Cortina Hotel and had great meals every evening.

BC and I were able to hook up with a great Brit who was going to Innsburck for a ride and we took a bus to St. Anton, Austria to enjoy bluebird sky's and wonderful skiing throughout the week. We stayed at the Gria Tali for the first time.
