February 27th - March 9th...
Grindlewald - First Week
First Week - 7 of us enjoyed a great week in Grindelwald Switzerland...
Chalet Alpstein - Apartment Alpenrose (8 beds, 4 rooms - a real treat...) BC, Tracey, Dan, Paul, Kevin, Erin, and Jim stayed in a wonderful chalet Alpstein in the middle of Grindelwald... The day we arrived was blue-bird and the rest of the week was either cloudy and\or snowing. We all bought a 6 day pass which helps for all train travel... The snow was plentiful and we started the week at First. Erin "let's it go". Great Lunch on the mid-station and we all were able to enjoy some real powder and then a stop at the Ranchero for Apres. The second day brought some real clouds and we all went to Wengen via Klein Shedigand had a great lunch at the bottom of the lauberhorn. The clouds kept rolling in a presented some problems with getting around... A bunch of went to the teepee on the top of Klein Shetig and we met some good people from New Zealand...Tim\Tim\Tim\Simon
BC, Paul, Dan and Tracey skied on Tueday and Erin went to the "Top of Europe"... Kevin and Jim went by train (1/2 hour) to interlaken to spend the day looking for cigars and fun times. Dinner at Les Alpes in Grindelwald- Good and Cheap. Wed, the fourth day, we all went on the train from Grindelwald to the base of Piza Gloria. Train\Train\Bus - Grindelwald to Zveilutchinen to Lauterbrunen... Great morning of off piste skiing and a great outdoor lunch in Murren. Recommend to take Lauterbrunn Gondi to Gruesechaip and then train from Grutschalp to Murren...Tracy wrenched her knee going from off-piste to the trail bump...Ouch... The rest of us made our way up through Wengen and home to Grindelwald and everyone enjoyed a great in home dinner... The snow started falling on Wednesday night and the powder on Thursday at "First" was great...Lunch @ Bort Hotel on top of the "first" Gondi was great. BC and Tracy took Thursday off... Friday was spent back at Klein Sheideg for a great closing ski week...Everyone was lost in the powder and we finally met everyone at the TeePee for a great Apres and end of week party. On Saturday, 4 of us sent the skis (before 8:00 Am) to klosters via the train so we didn't have to transport them... The skiis showed up at kloster on Sunday at 11Am...just right...Dan\Paul\Erin went on to Zurich and then home.
KLOSTERS - Second Week
March 7-13, 2009
House Libertas - 4 person Apartment in Klosters Dorf... BC, Tracey, Kevin and Jim took the train from Grindelwald to Klosters (about 4 hours). The trip was very easy on the train and the four of us arrived at "Haus Libertas" in Klosters Dorf... A great 2 bedroom aparment w\ great views of the valley and very convenient to the train station. We found out that the train goes to Klosters Platz every hour and we generally got on the 9:20 for great days of skiing. The apartment was also only 500 yards from Medrissa ski area and BC and Jim skiied the medrissabahn all day on Sunday... It was a great day as we hiked from the top to the bowl and skiied out.. .Jim had a tough time because he needs all mountain or powder skis. Gondi to T-Bars to hike to bowls at Medrissa...Italian Dinner in Klosters Dorf, Bahnhofli. All of us skiied on Monday as Tracey's knee was feeling better... Garhabird Gondi in Klosters Platz - clouds to mostly sunny. Nice lunch in log cabin at bottom of Gondi... All but Jim hiked to trails out and Spill skiied to Kaprun and then took the train from Kaprun to Klosters! All skiied in Davos except Jim. Jim went to Wellness Center in Davos, swimming, sauna, jacuzzi - Great venue! Kevin and Tracey skiied and then got caught on a train because Kevin was admiring dogs... Great story as they had to pay to get back to Klosters Dorf. Wed in Davos, great on piste skiing - off piste difficult except low...1/2 day pizzaria in klosters... Js to wellness and pool again... Thursday Kevin and JIm to Madrissa and Tracey and BC to Davos... Good skiing. Great Dinner (steak w\ bernaisse) at the Snail in Davos then off to a playoff game to see Davos Hockey Club win...
